Toypost established itself, when schools, teachers and children asked if they could buy the toys used at our Victorian and Traditional Toy school demonstrations. Thankfully many teachers and (Grand)Parents attempt to get children playing (again) with traditional toys, moving them away from computer games etc. Our toys are frequently selected upon feedback from customers, from children and their family.
We source toys and games of the best quality and value from suppliers and importers from all over the world, including toys made by British toymakers and 'cottage industry' toys.
We try to offer an interesting selection of products and many of our customers come across material, which is usually very hard to get hold off. This web-catalogue lists a variety of traditional & folk-music based items, with many more non-folk material added upon request by our customers and contacts. The dance-packs always have been a success with teachers and children.
The 'Fun Folk Dances' and 'Rig-a-Jig-Jig' pack, for instance, is one of our most popular products and over the years the excellent ‘Baskets and Bananaskins’ packs have proved to be a hit as well! In the latter half of the 1980's a handful of teachers in Hereford & Worcester schools, who were interested in the folk music, dance and traditional customs of England got together to discuss the possibility of promoting these subjects in schools.
The outcome was setting up the post of 'Folk Animateur' and from this the Folk In Education business evolved in 1992, providing resources for teachers, schools and parents, followed by a website at the end of 1998. Traditional Toys and Games also became part of these resources, with many schools enjoying a new service, the Toypost Loan Box.
The Toypost.co.uk website was created in 1998 and went live in 1999. Toypost.co.uk is now a full blown e-commerce site with secure click and buy facilities. It is constantly updated and the range of products expands on a regular basis; traditional toys & games now sharing space with a variety of wooden toys, tin plate items, gifts etc.
